What is the DNA of a Champion Model for Sport?
It is a psychometric test, based on Sir Clive Woodward's successful DNA of a Champion Model, which helps to determine an individual's mental toughness and how effectively they perform when exposed to stressors, pressure and challenge, irrespective of the prevailing situation.
The test has been designed around the methodology that Sir Clive Woodward used to win the Rugby World Cup with England as shown in the diagram above. The model defines the two components of the DNA of a Champion.
The first is ABILITY or talent which is not measured here as it is not generic and is dependent on the activity. Talented individuals - have the skill and ability necessary to deliver in their chosen role but have not yet leveraged this talent.
The second is Mental Toughness which is measured in the following way:
- TEACHABILITY, the desire and ability to continually learn – (SPONGE).
- PRESSURE this is the ability to work effectively and deliver consistently whatever the prevailing environment demands. It is in short thinking correctly under pressure (T-CUP)
- WILL, this is the determination and drive to deliver extraordinary performance, it is about the state of mind and (ATTITUDE).
The test will enable the identification and development of future talent within the world of sport defined from the attributes
above.

How it works
Each individual completes an online psychometric test, which takes approximately 15 minutes. Once complete, you will receive three detailed assessment reports via email:
Development Report
which gives you developmental feedback on your mental toughness.
Assessor Report
designed to support recruitment or selection by giving a more complete picture of an individual.
Coaching Report
gives information about an individual's mental toughness, that can be used in coaching and development.
The reports are accompanied by a summary sheet, which determines the individual's overall mental toughness, giving a DNA of a Champion level. That level is derived from the attributes below:
Teachability (Sponge)

Pressure (T-Cup)

Attitude (Will)

Your overall DNA of a Champion score determines whether you are a STUDENT, WARRIOR or a CHAMPION.
These are Sir Clive Woodward's definitions:
Student
“Students" are “Talented" individuals who also demonstrate a passion for their subject and are teachable. “Students" are willing to learn and accumulate knowledge around their role which will give them increased awareness of what they need to do in order to succeed in their role. “Student's" are sponges for taking on new ideas and knowledge.
Warrior
“Warriors" will systematically work through every eventuality they might encounter in their role so that they have already gone through the thought processes needed to overcome them. This reduces the chances of coming up against something unexpected allowing them to think correctly under pressure. “Warriors" have the ability to make the correct decisions in pressurised situations and will perform at their best when the pressure is at its greatest.
Champion
“Champion" people demonstrate the will, attitude and commitment to succeed in their chosen role. They display great focus on attention to detail and have an uncompromising level of excellence and personal standards. They display a readiness to take tasks on and make sure these are seen through and colleagues will enjoy working with them.
